Structured, evidence-based care for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder — delivered via telehealth anywhere in Australia.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a mental health condition where people experience recurring, unwanted thoughts known as obsessions. These can create intense anxiety and lead to compulsions—repetitive behaviours or mental acts done in an attempt to ease the discomfort.
For some, OCD may revolve around fears of contamination or getting sick. For others, it might involve an overwhelming need for things to feel "just right," or distressing intrusive thoughts that go against personal values. Many people with OCD also struggle with repeated checking or repeating rituals in specific ways to avoid a sense of danger or dread.
While the content of OCD can vary from person to person, the emotional toll it takes is often similar—constant worry, mental fatigue, and a feeling of being stuck in a cycle that's hard to break.
Evidence-based, compassionate, and tailored to you.
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the gold-standard treatment for OCD. We guide you through gradual exposure to feared situations while resisting compulsions.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy helps you relate differently to intrusive thoughts — reducing their power without relying solely on avoidance.
OCD often comes with intense shame and self-criticism. We weave self-compassion into treatment, so recovery feels kind, not punishing.
EMDR can help reprocess the distressing thoughts and emotional memories that fuel OCD cycles — particularly when intrusive thoughts are tied to past experiences, fear, guilt, or shame.
Our online OCD therapy is delivered securely via video, so you can access professional care from the comfort of your home—whether you're in a regional town or a busy city. From your very first appointment, you'll be supported by a registered psychologist who understands the nuances of OCD and works with evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
ERP is considered the gold standard in OCD treatment, and your therapist will help you face distressing thoughts in a safe and gradual way, all while reducing the urge to perform compulsions. We also incorporate mindfulness-based strategies to help manage anxious feelings, and we'll spend time building your understanding of how OCD operates so that you feel more empowered and in control. Therapy is always tailored to your pace—we're here to guide you, not rush you.
Booking your first session is easy and can be done completely online. Just head to our booking page, choose a time that suits you, and fill in a few quick details. You don't need a referral to get started (though if you're eligible for Medicare rebates, we'll guide you through that too). You're in control of the process, and you can do it all from the comfort of your home.
Once you've booked, you'll receive a confirmation email with everything you need, including your secure video link for the session. Just click the link at your scheduled time, and you'll be connected with your psychologist. We'll also send a reminder closer to your appointment, so there's no need to worry about missing it.
At your first session, we'll take the time to get to know you and understand what's been going on. We'll talk about how OCD is showing up in your life, explore your goals for therapy, and start building a plan that's tailored to you. If you've completed your intake form before the session, your psychologist will have already had a chance to read through it, which helps us make the most of your time together.
Once your plan is in place, you'll begin working with your psychologist using evidence-based approaches like CBT, ERP, and EMDR (if appropriate). Sessions are held online, in a private and supportive space where you can show up just as you are—pyjamas and pets welcome! Therapy is paced around you, and we'll check in regularly to make sure it's working for your needs. You'll be supported every step of the way as you build skills, confidence, and relief from the grip of OCD.
Your first online OCD therapy session is all about creating a safe, supportive space to begin exploring what you're going through. There's no pressure to have all the answers or explain everything perfectly—this is your time, and your therapist will meet you wherever you're at. In the beginning, you'll talk about the challenges you've been facing, how OCD is showing up in your life, and what you hope to get out of therapy. You might also go over any previous experiences with mental health support and whether you've had a formal diagnosis. This first session is also a chance for you to ask questions and get a feel for how things will work moving forward.
From there, your psychologist will begin developing a plan that's tailored to you. We commonly draw on evidence-based treatments like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)—a therapy method specifically designed for OCD. ERP helps you gradually face the thoughts or situations that trigger anxiety while resisting the urge to perform compulsive behaviours. Over time, this can reduce the anxiety that keeps the OCD cycle going.
Because our therapy is online, you can attend sessions from wherever you feel most comfortable—your lounge room, home office, or even outside with a cuppa in hand. We use secure video conferencing tools, and you'll receive your session link by email once your booking is confirmed. All you need is a quiet space, an internet connection, and the willingness to take that first step. Therapy moves at your pace. Some weeks might feel like big breakthroughs, others might feel a little heavier—and that's okay. We're here to walk alongside you through every part of the process.

EMDR is increasingly being used alongside ERP and CBT to support OCD — particularly where intrusive thoughts are tied to past experiences.
Learn About EMDREMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapy is a gentle but powerful approach that can help people with OCD reprocess the distressing thoughts and emotions that fuel their compulsions. While it's most known for treating trauma, EMDR is increasingly being used to support those with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, especially when intrusive thoughts are tied to past experiences, fear, guilt, or shame.

Yes. Online OCD therapy delivered via telehealth has been shown to be as effective as in-person therapy when it uses the same evidence-based approaches — particularly Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and there is emerging evidence for EMDR as an effective treatment for OCD. For many people, working from a familiar environment can actually make ERP exercises more practical, because exposures often need to happen at home anyway. Outcomes still depend on the therapeutic relationship, your engagement with the work, and the right approach for your presentation, which we'll talk through in your first session.
Online OCD therapy with a registered psychologist is covered by Medicare in Australia under the Better Access initiative. With a Mental Health Treatment Plan (sometimes called a Mental Health Care Plan) from your GP, you can access up to 10 individual rebated sessions per calendar year. Telehealth sessions attract the same rebate as in-person appointments. For more on how rebates work, see our Medicare rebates guide.
You don't need a referral to book online OCD therapy with us if you're paying privately — you can book directly through our online booking page. A referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP are only required if you'd like to claim Medicare rebates. Note that from 1 November 2025, your referral must come from your usual GP or the GP at your MyMedicare-registered practice. We're happy to walk you through the process if you're not sure where to start — get in touch.
The cost of online OCD therapy in Australia depends on whether you're using Medicare, private health insurance, or paying privately. Our session fees are outlined on our fees & pricing page. With a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan, Medicare rebates a portion of that — leaving a gap fee that you pay out of pocket. We process your Medicare rebate on your behalf at the time of your session, so the rebate is usually back in your account within 48 hours. For current fees and gap amounts, please contact us.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is a broad approach that helps you recognise and shift unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours. ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) is a focused form of CBT designed specifically for OCD, and it's considered the gold standard of OCD treatment. ERP gradually exposes you to the thoughts, situations, or sensations that trigger your obsessions, while supporting you to resist the compulsions you'd normally use to relieve the anxiety. Over time, the brain learns the feared outcome doesn't occur, and the OCD cycle weakens.
ERP works very well over telehealth, and in many ways it's a natural fit. Because most OCD triggers live in your everyday environment — your home, kitchen, bathroom, devices — your psychologist can guide you through real-time exposures right where they happen, rather than trying to recreate them in a clinic room. We'll co-design an exposure hierarchy with you, start at a manageable level, and build up gradually. Between sessions, you'll have structured exercises to practise, with check-ins to keep things on track.
A typical course of online OCD treatment ranges from around 12 to 20 sessions, though some people see meaningful change sooner and others benefit from longer-term support — particularly where OCD overlaps with trauma, anxiety, or depression. Under Medicare's Better Access initiative, you can claim rebates for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year. We'll review progress regularly, and if more sessions would help beyond your Medicare cap, we can continue privately or revisit your treatment plan with your GP.
Severe OCD can often be treated effectively online, especially with ERP, CBT, and EMDR. That said, we use your first session to carefully assess what's going on and what level of support is most appropriate. For some people — particularly where OCD is causing significant functional impairment, where there's risk of self-harm, or where in-person exposures or higher-intensity programs are indicated — a stepped-care approach involving your GP, a psychiatrist, or a focused OCD program may be a better fit. We'll always be honest about that with you.
For most people, telehealth OCD therapy is as effective as face-to-face therapy. Multiple Australian and international studies of CBT and ERP delivered by video have shown comparable outcomes to in-person treatment for anxiety disorders and OCD. Telehealth also removes practical barriers — travel, waiting rooms, time off work — which often means people start sooner and stay engaged longer. The deciding factor is usually the quality of the therapeutic relationship and the fit of the approach, not the format.
Pure O (sometimes called "purely obsessional" OCD) is a form of OCD where the compulsions are mostly mental rather than visible behaviours — things like silent reviewing, mental checking, reassurance-seeking, or rumination. Despite the name, there are still compulsions; they just happen inside your head. Pure O responds well to ERP and ACT-based approaches, and online therapy is particularly well suited to it because the work is largely cognitive. Common Pure O themes we work with include harm OCD, relationship OCD, scrupulosity, and intrusive sexual or moral thoughts.
Yes, many private health funds cover online psychology under "extras" cover, including sessions delivered via telehealth. The rebate amount and annual limit depend on your fund and level of cover, so it's worth checking directly with your insurer. Please note you can't claim both Medicare and private health insurance for the same session — you'll need to choose one for each appointment. If you don't have a Mental Health Treatment Plan, private health extras can be a useful alternative. See our guide to private health insurance for online psychology for more detail.
You can book your first online OCD therapy session through our online booking page. Choose a time that suits you, fill in a few quick details, and you'll receive a confirmation email with your secure video link. You don't need a referral to book — though if you'd like Medicare rebates, you'll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. If you have questions before booking, you're welcome to contact us and we'll get back to you within 1–2 business days.
